you recipe sounds yummy. I havn't really used Buttercream much. Is the crusting type you make suitable for attaching chocolate cigarillos to the sides of a cake? How brown is the mix - is there a way i can make it darker brown if necessary?
If you're going to attach the cigarillo's do it right after you frost the cake, that way it's still kind of sticky and they'll stay in place. Here's how dark it is:
If you wanted to go darker you could use 1 1/2 c. of cocoa powder instead of the melted chocolate but you'll need more cream at the end. The cocoa will be this dark:

I'm new at this so please bear with me. Your chocolate bc recipes looks wonderful. Is this a crusting icing? If not, is it hard to get smooth before decorations?
Yep, it does crust, after about 7-10 minutes, not hard to smooth at all
