I had a fish tank cake to do for a 21 st that I thought would be fairly simple, right ? Unfortunately the cake wasn't working with me !!
1. The mixture overflowed in the oven whilst cooking
2. The cake sank in the middle when cooling (talking crater here !)
3. The ganache was still too soft when I was covering it with fondant & cake was leaning( even with dowels )
4. The fondant was cracking where I tried to straighten the stupid cake !
5.The choc.transfers I made were now too big for cake icon_mad.gif
6.It looks like my 10 yr.old son made it ! icon_cry.gif

I charged $20 less than my quote because I was so unhappy with it ( even though the mum thought it looked great icon_confused.gif !!)

It was an 11" halved & stacked ( Martha Stewarts' lemon cream cheese pound cake, which I love ! )

No loud giggling please icon_biggrin.gif

I think it looks great! You'd never guess how many problems you had - you should have kept the 20.

It is a very cute cake!

I totally agree with Crislen! There's nothing wrong with that cake (at least the final result). Your cake came out wonderfully! Sorry it gave you that laundry list of problems (I hate when that happens), but there's always one of "those" cakes every so often for everbody. The next one will be better.

I still don't see the problem with the cake. Stop being so hard on yourself!

You don't ? Maybe the photo is a little deceiving ! It's lumpy & uneven on the top, the black edges aren't straight & the fondant has cracks in it ( you also can't see the lean !!! ) icon_biggrin.gif
At least my writing is pretty good - which is unusual icon_lol.gif

I agree with everyone else! It looks super! You should have kept the money!

Like Duff says "after all is said and done, it's just cake!"

wow, I thought I posted this for a minute.....this sounds like the issues I had with MY aquarium cake, and I thought the thing was gonna be super simple as well. Cut two 1/4 sheets in half, stack em' up and add some chocolate details and voila, easy cake. I too gave them money off, only I gave her 25.00 off!! I thought mine wasn't crisp and clean like I had wanted, the lady didn't say anything (good or bad) when she took it, just threw it in her back seat (yikes) and left!! ugh! oh well, it wasn't a "great" cake to begin with. Who knew aquariums were so difficult??

I think you're both just "fishing" for compliments!!

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER CAKE!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Repeat after me....Aquarium cakes do not need to contain real water or fish. Aquarium cakes are for eating. I made a darn good looking cake that was imperfect only to me and a cake competition judge looking for faults.

Aquarium cakes d...........

Keep repeating until it "sinks" in.
