i am making a cake for my husbands b-day..... it just so happens to fall on the redskins and cowboys game day. so i need to know what should i do to get the silver color of the cowboys.

I'm not really sure this will help but you can start with grey icing then maybe paint it with silver luster dust. Here is a thread that might help.
