i just got a last minute order for a cake with the diamond pattern and while looking through the forums i found that there is a mat which i have no time to order.....can anyone tell me how to do this on a cake?!!! HELP

This was discussed recently but I have no idea what the thread title would be.
You can use a (sewers?) triangle OR you can marke the top & bottom of your cake evenly (1"?).
Now, using a ruler make a line from one line on the top to one off on the bottom (so the line is angled). Go all around the cake, then do it the other way. I understand if you pad the ruler w/a well folded paper towel you won't 'cut' thru the icing.
thank you so much, i was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.
I tried it myself and the icing kept pulling off onto the spatula. So someone on here suggested that I use cornstarch to help. I haven't tried it...but just thought I'd share my experience.
