Fondant!

When working with fondant, what do you put on the cake before placing the fondant? In class, they used marizpan. It's just alot to do. Can you use BC icing or will that melt the fondant?

Put BC and then chill it so it will withstand the potential melting factor when smoothing the fondant on. Also, I think you don't want to overdo it on the BC since it can soften and shift around on you. HTH

I use a layer of buttercream icing that's been smoothed out and left to crust over. Then I paint a thin strip of piping gel around the bottom of the cake to help the fondant to adhere to the cake.
