I have never done this. Any suggestions, ideas or tutorials?

Thank you so much!

Without knowing what you're trying to make, or the complexity of the shape, we can't help you with specifics. Please tell us more about your project so we can give you the best advice we can.

In the meantime, I have a cake with in-progress pictures on my website at http://www.cakedalaska.com/Caked_Alaska/Monkey_see.html
It's covered in modeling chocolate, not fondant, but maybe it can give you some ideas. This one is covered in stages.

Yeah...it really depends on the cake. Some I cover in pieces, and some I cover with one piece. It all depends on size and shape you are trying to cover and if you can hide the seams. I usually prefer to cover the cake in pieces if the seams will be covered or hidden...you just have more control that way.
