Hi,

I'm new to this site, so hopefully this will be posted.

I'm also new to the cake making craze. I've just made my first cake that I've iced. The thing is that the sponge wasn't as light as I wanted it.

I used 150g of butter, flour and eggs, baked for 50 mins at 160 degrees.

How can I make it light?

Any tips?

Since I don't have your exact recipe, its hard to say why your cake wasn't as light as you would like. What I can tell you from my own experience is that most cakes made from scratch tend to be slightly heavier and more dense than cakes made from a package. I think its more important that the cake is moist and tastes good. What I usually do is try various recipes for the same type of cake until I find one that I really like. Sometime you even end up combining two recipes to make a new one of your own. That's the whole fun of baking!
