I'm a full time student, studying Hotel and Restaurant Management (aka Hospitality). I just do cakes in my free time. I was working, but the economy stinks and my boss couldn't afford to keep me on (I was his only employee) because he's not getting enough business (cake decorating and catering).
So, I have more free time than I'd like to now.

House manager for a womens long term residential treatment centre for drug and alcohol addiction and mom of an 18 yr old and a 16 yr old. Unfortunately cake decorating and designing has taken a back seat for the past couple of yrs.
I was a caregiver and didn't like the job. I'm also an artist; Absract, Surrealism and Impressionism are my top picks. I am now a full time stay at home human being (unmarried). I take care of my 1 1/2 year old. He's name is Fudge although I love to call him cookie.
I work for Ameristar Casino & Hotel in the hotel. I work audit plus we are the operator for the entire property.
I have been in retail my entire life, then had a home daycare business for 8 years before going to the casino, which I have been there for 2 1/2 years. and Love it.
Been doing cakes for over 15 yrs, teaching myself all that I know at the moment. Have alot more I want to learn to.
I am a SAHM. I have my Master's in Education. My husband is in the military and we move so much and have lived overseas for most of his career-- it has been hard to get a job. I was an Assistant Director at our child development center at our last base. I REALLY do love staying home with my 2 girls (ages 8 and almost 3).
This has really been a great thread! I've enjoyed reading it. I can't believe how a lot of you work full time AND decorate cakes! I would be so tired. You all inspire me so much!
I am a Legal Assistant for an attorney (been there for 15 years, and the only employee, so I do everything), wife, mother of 2 sons, 5 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (the newest great-grandchild was just born this week and is a girl - Bridgett).
I made cakes back when my son was only 3 and I was a SAHM. But the SAHM ended with a divorce from my 1st husband and I went to work full time. Now many years later, I started making cakes so that I could give my family special cakes for their birthdays and other special occasions. People saw them and I started getting requests for them and I have been making them for several years now. I love the whole process and spread it out over the course of several evenings after work. Yes, I do get tired, but it is a different kind of tired than from my job. And the possibilities are endless - only limited by my imagination. And CC has helped me learn to do what I imagined!
Thanks to CCers for their willingness to share what they know and their techniques!
I am an MRI technologist with a private Radiology practice two days a week. We are also maple syrup producers (DH is 3rd generation of his familly on the same land ) so we are very busy with that this time of year. No kids, but two German Shepherds, and two cats, and of course, my cakes.
Last job I had was a Probation Officer; then had kids and dropped out of the work force to take on the most challenging of all work....being a mom to 7 kids! Now, for the last 12 years, since the kids are now grown, and to accommodate THEIR school, sports, social schedules, I work at Applebee's.
Hi everyone GREAT THREAD!
I am a newbie...I owned my own Corporation (Boat Marina, boat sales, and repair) for a number of years on a major lake here...got burned out. We sold the company and I started working in admin for The Army National Guard as a Civilian Clerk. I worked there through Desert Storm in Family Support Operations.
Now I work for a Cadillac Dealership in Admin...and fill in as a part time receptionist...also a Personal Trainer. When people talk to me about baking cakes, they say something like; "But, don't you promote fitness?" My reply is...EVERYTHING IN MODERATION...LOL!
I bake cakes for family and friends after finding out how much I love this in the Wilton Classes.
My favorite position that I now hold...GRANDMOTHER.
So nice to meet everyone.

lifes good and i love every minute of it.
Bluehue - congrats on your survivorship! I too am a cancer survivor (about 2 1/2 years now!!!)
I worked as Activity Director in a nursing home for six years (five pre-cancer) and after cancer I decided I needed a job that I could keep at work and not take all the baggage home with me. I loved the people, but I was working ALWAYS (at night after work and about every weekend planning stuff) and had a young son that I wasn't getting to spend nearly enough time with. Now I work in a lawyer's office - 8:30 - 5:00 and NO WEEKENDS!! That's when I got into cake decorating and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! And Jonah loves to watch me and talk about what I'm doing - so quality time is built in!

I work full time as a school secretary and have been at that job for the last 7+ years. DH and I got married just a month before I started at the school. I'm also mom to 2 girls, 2 1/2 and almost 6. I've been decorating cakes since I was in HS, but have only been decorating cakes WELL for the past 5 years when I made my daughter's first birthday cake! My husband works at a factory, and he's a part-time student AND he's a volunteer firefighter. Since the slow econony, his hours got cut at the factory, so he also works part-time at a greenhouse. While he's doing all that, I take care of pretty much everything else! We are VERY busy!
rockysmom~ welcome aboard! You'll love it here!
Bluehue~hang onto that man and stay positive! Congrats!
Love this thread!
What an interesting thread! I'm an Industrial Engineer by degree, but now I am a business team leader for an oven/stove manufacturing plant. I am also a single Mom to a 4 year old son and 8 year old daughter!! I have been baking all my life, but started selling my cakes about a year ago. It has been a wonderful blessing in my life... extra $$, a creative outlet, makes people happy, and keeps my mind off why I am still single after being divorced 4 years. I guess I am in a relationship with my cakes... they make me happy!! LOL how sad is that? ha!
I am an EMT in a Middle School for the past 8 years. Worked part-time befire that so that I could raise my girls. They are now 17 and 20. Only one left at home, then I can do what I want(maybe I will even bring my husband)!
I was a Buyer for multiple different companies until I had my daughter in Feb 08. Now I'm a SAHM. I stopped doing cakes for a bit to try to get used (if that ever happens) to her schedule. Now I'm trying to get up and running again.
I usually do a lot of prep work on Sundays and Mondays since those are my husband's days off and he can watch the little one (now a year old).
I was a teacher for 28 years. I am now happily retired, enjoying doing cakes again, for my friends and family. Haven't done cakes since I was home for 8 years with my boys when they were younger.... (that was about 20 years ago) and of course.... I am totally addicted to this site!
