Hello, I am making a fosting made with butter for the first time. ( The cake doctors chocolate syrup icing). My question is do I have to refrigerate the cake after it's frosted because it has butter in it, as opposed to shortening.

No, the high sugar content should preserve the icing so it can be left out of the fridge (for a few days at least!)

I've never made the chocolate syrup frosting but I have made buttercream with all butter instead of shortening and I do not refrigerate. I have kept in a cake saver and has been fine for almost a week (May last longer but it's usually been ate by then)

No, you don't have to refridgerate the cake. There's enough sugar in the frosting to preserve the butter for a while. I've left cakes/cupcakes out overnight in a container/box before and they tasted fine.
