Different Way To Place Writing On Side Of Cake

I was at a birthday party this weekend and saw a different way to put writing on the side of the cake.

I didn't realize until they cut the cake that the bakery had written on a piece of clear plastic and then placed that on the side of the cake.

I wish I would have known that prior to the cutting of the cake because I would have looked closer. I was instead looking at how they made the rows of corn and apple tree.

Has anyone done this?

you mean they left the plastic ON the cake??

You can always pipe on a gumpaste or fondant or colorflo piece. Even wafer paper is great but still edible.
