With the current state of the economy, I'm wondering how all of you are able to cope. What things have you done in order to reduce your costs and/or retain customers and get new ones?

Honestly, people still pay for cakes! I've read it on this site before, cake sales are still great even with the downturn on the general economy. I like the reason that someone stated: people save up for those big, special events.

If you don't do a ton of cakes, you can easily keep a part-time or even a full-time job (35 hours per week).

It could be the area that you are in...you could be experiencing a the downturn in economy more than other states. There are people who want a huge cake but don't want to pay for it.

What if you did a little marketing to businesses? Get a little commercial action.
