What would you charge for a 3-D sculpted, fondant dog cake?

I have an order for a Border Collie for about 30 ppl. I haven't made a dog before so I do not know how long it will take, etc., but I need to give a price quote.

Any suggestions??

I charge per serving: $4 for a regular fondant covered cake (tiered or whatever), and $5 for a carved cake.

It's easy to explain that it costs more for carved cakes because you have to take into account all of the cake that will end up in the trash form carving it away. Not to mention the extra difficulty, preparation and time!

Are there any bakeries in your area that will do carved cakes? If so call them for your local area pricing. If you feel better charging a little bit less because it is your 1st carved cake then ok but at least you will know how much your giving away.
