At least the pictures don't show a professional looking cake - the cake looks very amateurish and what one could expect if following the directions.

I really doubt she has the knowledge to be giving wedding advice. It doesn't seem to correct in making your own cake and the other advice she gives.

And yet it's people like this who are published and get paid for stupid articles like this!

I actually sent in a comment, and asked if anyone really checks these articles and pictures out before putting them on this website. And I thought things I found on about.com were worth reading..............

This is a reprint article, I saw it years ago...
I wonder why someone thought it was good enough to bring back? Image

And did you notice where she says to stop and do the rest on the wedding day, and then a step or two later she says to give yourself an hour to smooth the icing? That is quite the timeline.

Oh my, that cake is hideous.

Grocery store sheetcakes are much more elegant!

Now try smoothing a huge cake already assembled, with straws supports!!??? Make sure the floor is clean first, so you could try picking it up from the floor!!! And she says to dip in the spatula in hot water - I think (correct me if i'm wrong) that you're supposed to wipe off the water and smooth the icing with a hot but dry spatula?? WOW I wonder how many weddings she ruined, and how many MOB's had to run to the supermarket to try to get a wedding cake a few hours before the wedding....

The good thing about that article is that any bride who sees that cake is going to be much more willing to pay a pro.

And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why I won't be making my own wedding cake. Even though I trust my abilities for birthday parties and family gatherings, but I wouldn't want to be shown in my wedding pictures crying over a cake like many brides following her advice will be.

My husband just suggested that if you make a cake like that you could also rent out the old Waffle House for the reception.
