I made/used chocolate MMF for the first time this weekend. When I made it, it did seem a bit dry. I did not use all the powdered sugar in the recipe. When I covered the (square) cake, it cracked and tore at all four corners. It cracked pretty much around the entire top edges. Any suggestions on what to do next time?
If it seems dry, knead in some shortening before you try to cover th cake, then quickly stick the fondant around the top edges to prevent it pulling on the fondant and breaking at the edge.
