In Australia every two years the Guild in NSW runs a cake contest called Challenge. This year they apparently had over 200 entries.

This is only the second time I entered a Cake Competition, the first being the Easter Show this year.

This time round I got a 2nd place for this cake

and a Highly Commended for this cake

unfortunately this one didn't get anything but that's a good experience in itself and I look forward to the feedback from the judges.

Next aim is the Easter Show next year a blue ribbon as I got a 2nd and 3rd earlier this year I need the blue to finish off all the colours! icon_biggrin.gif

While it's somewhat a stressful experience I think I've learnt more in the last 6 months than I did the whole year before that, so if you are looking to grow your skills I recommend a competition (and lots of supportive friends) ;D

I was also excited for some of my cake friends who entered too, one won 5 ribbons! Two girls who were first time entrants took out a 3rd place and highly commended, so all the new up and comers are up and coming! heheheh

I'd love to hear other people's experiences with comps too, what has it helped you learn?
