I crumb coated my cakes and they won't "set" the icing is too slick to cover with buttercream. Did I completely screw this up? What do I do?

When that happened to me, it was because I didn't use enough powdered sugar in my icing. When I was making the icing, a pretty good bit, flew out of the mixing bowl. The icing was falling off the cake. When I added more powdered sugar, it turned out good.

I take turtle3264's advice and add more powdered sugar to your buttercream. Don't make it too thick though! Scrape your old crumb coat off, and start over with your thickened buttercream....
