Wilton Gumpaste Question

I just bought the wilton gumpaste mix... how much powered sugar do you use after mixing.. you know when your kneading it... Is the gumpast suppose to be sticky? or is the consistency suppose to be like fondant?

Right now it very soft and sticky....

Help!?!?

It should be soft but not sticky, if you press your fingers against it they should come away cleanly. Then let it rest in the fridge for at least a few hours, preferably overnight to let the paste mature. When it comes out of the fridge it will be stiff, work a little crisco into it and its ready to use.

how much powered sugar am i suppose to be adding to it?

When I use gumpaste, I sprinkle a bit of cornstarch on my surface - not powdered sugar. I use a sugar shaker or mesh sifter to get a good sprinkling.

And use about a teaspoon of vegetable shortening (rub on the palms of your hands) to knead into the gumpaste to take care of the stickiness. HTH

I follow the directions on the can and have very good luck with it just as written.
