I am going to attempt to make roses, Edna's way, and would like to know which is better. I have only made gum paste the Wilton way. Is homemade better?

I'm not a fan of the Wilton...I use either Nic Lodge's recipe or just add Tylose to my fondant 24 hours before I want to use it.

When I can make homemade I use Nick Lodge's recipe and when I need it in a hurry and don't have any I buy Wilton's premade. Nick Lodge's readymade is really nice and I'm trying out Marchela Sanchez' readymade right now and it seems nice but it is expensive I think.

I just can't be bothered with Wilton's mix, but I love their premade. I buy it with my Michael's & Joann's coupons quite often. It just needs a bit of crisco kneaded into it and it's good to go. It dries quickly & it's strong.

For non-competition work, I often just add some Tylose, CMC, gum trag, or Wilton's gum tex to my fondant for flowers & decos and it works beautifully.
