Wrap A Cake In Chocolate Layers, Pictorial!!
Decorating By Sarsi Updated 30 Apr 2013 , 4:18pm by alanajonesmann
Thanks for the pictorial Sarsi. I was taking a break from my housecleaning and came upon this thread. My break is taking longer than I had planned--lol but it's time well spent. Thanks again!
I really want to try this for a friend's shower cake this weekend, but I doubt I'll be able to get to an art or cake supply store in time. Is there anything else that can be used? Freezer paper doesn't seem like it would be sturdy enough.
Well, I used parchment paper and it worked! I'm sure acetate is sturdier, but this worked in a pinch! I got lots of compliments! Thanks!
Whoa, I hadn't been getting notifications I guess! Sorry guys!!! Yes, I've heard that Freezer paper will work in a pinch. I think that acetate would be easiest, but freezer paper will work!
Wow, I would've never guessed that parchment would work! Thanks for sharing your results with us chocomama!!!
Thanks for your great idea! I used it for my sons' senior recital cake, adding a musical "touch" to it. I just posted it but it flew off the home page. Here's the link:

WOW!!! GREAT JOB!!!! I'm so glad it worked so well for you!!! Congratulations on an awesome masterpiece!!!
Wow Jodie! Beautiful cake! How many transfer sheets did you have to use for the notes?
I only had 1. I had ordered them for a wedding cake I did in 2005 (the first cake I posted here!) and thought I had 2 left. With one transfer I came up a little short.......which is why there's a back of the cake!!!!

hi!
thanks for sharing ..but is it ok to use a thin layer of ganache to frost cake prior to wrapping it w/ chocolate?...
Sure...ganache would be fine. The chocolate needs something to cling to. Good luck!

I love this....I wanted to do the candle cakes for my mom for Mothers Day but wasn't really sure how to do it...NOW I DO!!!
My husband just asked for a cheesecake for tomorrow so I may practice on it as well.
TY TY TY
thanks for posting that!
I have never used that technique before, or for that fact never heard of it either..
Thanks
how to make the marble kind of design on top of the cake and what is that technique called please guide lovely pictorial. Is so helpful for first timers like me
Have you ever tried this whith a couple of layers, stacked? How does the cake hold up being moved around?
I just went back and saw your picture Jodie F.! Very nice cake!!! I guess my question could be directed towards you then. Any advice?
Dolphindreamers....The cake was very easy to move around! It was cold and the chocolate was solid! I just picked it up and plopped it down, no issues. You just have to be careful the heat of your hands doesn't melt the chocolate or leave fingerprints! You can wear cotton gloves.

I have a Groom's Cake to do this weekend. It is choc cake, choc filling, choc icing and choc strawberries. And this would be AWESOME to add to it, BUT it's square. Can I do this with a square cake? If so, do you have any tips for me. Also I wouldn't be able to get that acetate. It would have to be parchment paper.
thank you so much for the instructions and the inspiration. My church has a annual choirs anniversary program, I plan to attempt your cake for this program. Again thank you
