I read that this stand is threaded and can come apart. My question is... does the pole come off of the bottom so that it can be used as a cake stand? I want to order it but I need to know that first.

The bottom tier of this stand can be used flat without the center pole.
This stand can be used with all the tiers as shown or can be adjusted to use however many tiers you want to use.
