Does anyone know if Italian Buttercream icing takes a lot of red colour to make it a bright red for a fire truck. I use gel colours and I have been finding my reds not coming as bright as I would like them. I have never made italian buttercream before. I will be doing this cake Friday so if anyone can help that would be great.
Thanks
Sue

I don't use Italian BC, so I am not sure on that. I use regular buttercream and I know it takes a lot of red. I can use an entire little container of the Wilton gel color to get it close to red enough. So you may want to have an extra one on hand in case you need it. Also, you could try Americolor if you can get it. They have a color called Super Red, and it works really well. Doesn't take nearly so much of it to get the bright red color. Good luck with your cake.
