I was wondering how long I can store buttercream, and how should I store it? One recipe I have says it can be left at room temp for up to 3 months. I'm gonna try sugarshacks icing today, and was just wondering if I need to make a cake this week, or if I can wait a bit.
Thanks in advance!

Buttercream can be left for months if it's made with confectioner's sugar. As long as it's powdered sugar, crisco, milk or water you'll be fine. You can even store it in the refrigerator or freeze it and it will last longer. If it has butter in it, I'm not sure if it can be saved at RT for months but at least for several weeks.

If it's SMBC or IMBC, you can't because it has egg whites in it. But those can be safely kept in the freezer.
