Hello all. I am transporting cake 3 hours away for a wedding on Saturday, but I am going down on Friday morning. I am using Sugarshack's buttercream icing recipe. My question is should I ice and decorate the cakes in advance or should I wait until I get down to where I am staying? I plan on transporting them boxed (not stacked) and stacking them onsite, but I am wondering how the icing will hold up through 3+ hours of travel. I am in the wedding and trying to get as much done ahead of time as possible. I am hoping that it will only take us 3 hours to travel, but with my 7.5 month old daughter going with us, that will likely add a bit of additional time.

Any thought, suggestions, words of wisdom?

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any issues with the cake frosted in b/c icing traveling 3+ hrs. It holds up really well even in 90+ heat.

I just took a cake covered in ganache 4hrs to SC and had no problems.

Thanks for your reply sari.

Did you do anything special to make sure it wouldn't melt along the way?
