I am making a castle cake. I need to make the turrets sturdy, which is better to attach to the board royal icing or candy melts???

Temperature and humidity will be a factor. The candy melts will start to melt if it gets very warm. And royal icing does not like humidity. I would probably just use buttercream.

Since candy melts don't stick very well to foil or contact paper, I'd opt for royal icing for use as a glue in this instance.

In this case I would use RI. You can pipe it as thick as the turrets need it and it won't melt.
