I am making a golf course cake, and was planning to cover it in MMF, but I forgot to color my MMF before I made it and there is no time now! Can I cover the cake in the white MMF and then smooth on green BC and pipe decorations? Some of it (Like the fairway) would be just spatula smoothed BC on top of the fondant. I worry that I wont be able to get the nice smooth surface with just BC and no layer of fondant over my cake.

What about taking some green food color and sponge or use crumpled paper towel and "paint" the white MMF to look like the grass. Then pipe on the other stuff?

That sounds like it might work...have you tried it before?

No I haven't tried it myself. I've just seen it done on like Ace of Cakes and on the food network challenges. It looks pretty easy. Some use those craft foam brushes and just paint on the cake. I suppose if you use the gel color then you would have to dilute it some with a clear alcohol like vodka or everclear (?spelling of that) like they do when they paint with luster dust.
