A bride has requested a 3 tier square cake for a September wedding with ivory colored icing on the top, green on the middle and brown on the bottom. Her topper is a pair of deer nestled together (she says it's "tasteful, not tacky"!) She also has pressed leaves (I'm not sure yet what they look like) that she'd like to have cascading down the cake somehow, and has said she might also choose to have brown ribbon around the base of each tier. I just can't picture a cake with these three colors on each tier. I know the colors sometimes go together (a "green brown" gallery search yielded some pretty cakes) but I can't picture it how she's describing it. Does anyone have experience having made or seen something similar?
If she has pressed leaves that she wants cascading down i would put the cabash on that. The leaves would not be clean and you don't want that next to your cake. Maybe you could make some gumpaste leaves or even get some fake ones to make a spray or cascade. You could do a gradual color change on each cake. The top tier at the bottom starting to go green and the green tier at the bottom starting to go brown so they all blend together.
I would also be weary of pressed leaves touching a cake. Some leaves are poisonous and can make people ill. Also dry leaves might crumble when you cut the cake and who wants a piece of leaf in your dessert???
I would also suggest gumpaste leaves.
for a fall wedding, green and brown and ivory will be fine I would suggest a soft green like sage though - not bright spring green the color of grass. The deer thing is personal, but what the heck. everyone has different tastes. I can see something like the following: bottom is chocolate, with a sage ribbon around the base. Next one is sage, with a chocoate ribbon. Then ivory on top, with a chocolate ribbon and a thinner sage ribbon around the base. Use fall colored gumpaste leaves with browns and greens and orange-y accents to decorate the board and some around the cake. I think it could be lovely.

Totally agree! I would draw up a cake with these colors and design to show the bride. I guarantee you she will love it!!
I was watching a show the other day where the bride let the groom design the wedding b/c she loved him so much (they got married in the trees dressed in camo). Each his own, I guess!!
