how do I make my fondant harder, I can't even roll it.It's so soft it breaks if I try to roll. What can I add to it. IT was pre bought. Help. Cake due in one hour and I still gotta cover a second cake in fondant all in one hour. Wish me luck. What to do. oh Oh Oh
I think you might have to give up on the fondant for now. It doesn't sound like it's the right texture. The first time I ever tried to cover a cake in fondant, it didn't work at all and I ended up having to do buttercream instead. The next time I did the cake a day in advance in case I had trouble.
I agree with the powdered sugar and mabe a little cornstarch. If you wind up with it getting too hard, then zap it in the microwave for 10 sec. intervals until it is soft enough to roll and'or add some drops of water until it is the texture you want it. Maybe even some shortening. So don't be too scared to add too much sugar.
Like everyone has said add some icing sugar, i don't know about cornstarch tho, but icing sugar shld firm it up enuff to roll, and if it gets too hard knead in a little trex( crisco, to you i think).
I hope it work, i love working with fondant, buttercream i run away from as i never get the smoothness i get wit fondant.. different stokes for different folks uh!.. all the best
