Help Decorating A Cake

Hi..I am very new to this, I actually haven't even decorated a cake yet, but I am trying to find out what is use to paint a cake...when you want to paint a face or small details...I hope someone can help me...thanks

Welcome to Cake Central. There are many things that can be used to 'paint' on a cake. It depends on your icing, and how detailed the design.

You can mark a design with colored icing or with royal icing
you can paint, gently, on some buttercreams (the ones with only shortening are probably the best fo painting)

When you cover a cake in fondant, you can paint on it using food color mixtures.

there is a LOT to learn about cake decorating. One really good, inexpensive way is to take a Wilton decorating course at a craft store. many stores offer classes. You can also get decorating books from your library.
