Let's say that your client or family member tells you to make whatever flavor combination you think is best. What is your favorite cake, filing and icing combination (ie, chocolate cake, raspberry filing and cream cheese frosting)?
A favorite? Oh geez, that varies from day to day.
Banana, carrot or spice cake with cream cheese frosting. That's always good, especially for breakfast with a good cup of coffee.
Or, white cake with lemon curd filling and almond flavored buttercream frosting.
my most requested cake by friends is carrot with cream cheese icing.
Other very popular choices - chocolate cake with peanut butter cream cheese or expresso buttercream. These for potlucks, BBQs, casual get togethers.
My personal favorite - lemon vanilla with lemon curd. I would make it for a more formal event - a great dinner party, baby shower, engagement etc.
my new favorite is Chi Tea Spice cake with Apple and Caramel Filling
My favorite also varies-- this summer my favorite was a white cake with strawberry/mousse filling (iced with a butter/shortening buttercream). It was so good, and really, my first white cake that I really and truly loved. I had made this particular recipe several times, and while I thought it was good, I think the syrup that I brushed on it made a huge difference. It was just crazy good! So, if I had to pick one, this would be the one. Right now. Anyway.
Chocolate cake with coconut filling.
sour cream triple chocolate cake with chocolate hazelnut kahlua cream filling
coconut cream cake w/ pineapple filling and coconut butter cream
I always get requests for devil's food with peanut butter mousse!
Lemon cake torted with pineapple filling and glazed strawberrries is the most requested spring/summer combo and cherrry nut spice cake with caramel filling is the fall/winter fav.
Personally, I like 1234 cake with pineapple coconut filling and 7minute frosting.
