Thanks to all who share their experiences, ideas, suggestions and information here. I found all the advice VERY helpful! This cake was a big one for my just beginning home bakery!

cool....I think the only thing missing is a few jalopenos.....I think i spelled that right. But it's really cute.

Congratulations - its a great looking cake (how did you do the hat?). Best wishes with your home bakery. I'm sure it will be a great experience!

Thanks! I did make peppers, peanut butter ball recipe, covered in red and green chocolate. They looked great, but I didn't put them on the cake until after delivery. Will post a pick when I get one!

Snowshoe, the sombrero is a mini-mold cake covered in fondant (with gum tex added to make it harden). The brim is a flat circle that I put in a bowl to harden in that shape, then covered the mini-mold and set it in top of the brim and butter cream to cover the crease and add some color. I would have liked the hat to be a little closer to straw beige color, but put in too much yellow coloring!

Fantastic job. I made that cake before and the sombrero was my first experience working with fondant and gumpaste. I love your peppers especially since they are made of peanut butter icon_wink.gif
