So I baked a yellow cake mix tinted with Wilton rose gel and came out a nice Watermelon color. The previous posts on coating chocolate chips in flour to prevent them from sinking also worked. I used the oval pan Wilton course two and will carve the 3D Watermelon from that vs. buying the football or egg pan.

My question is the cake will be iced in BC should I frost the cake in light green and then use a Colormist (no airbrush ;-( green for the strips or should I use a brush with green gel color to "paint" the strips. Or is there another solution I am overlooking????

Thanks
Tamara

I think it'd be tough to paint with a brush on buttercream. I'd go with the colormist on buttercream. If you wanted to paint, you should cover your cake with fondant.
