Make your chocolate cake with choc BC and add fondant gold stars in a fire cracker shape (put a small cardboard tube covered in fondant and put the stars on wire coming out of the tube at different heights and and few lose stars on the cake)

Or make white chocolate stars to go around the cake.

I did one like this with chocolate shells as the decoration. Swirled white and milk chocolate in the shell molds.

I had the same last minute cake order too, but for a girls birthday (do people not realize birthdays come on the *same day*, every year?!! Here is the photo of what I did: gold fondant stars painted w/gold luster dust. Good luck!

If you know what he is into, like tools, cars, fishing or something you could make some chocolates or fondant in those shapes and place them on the cake.

Any bright color show up great on dark chocolate. YUM!
