What can I use for the base for the whole cake? For example when I want to make a cake like the one below? I of course would charge for it. Otherwise I would just use a cardboard right?

This cake was found on CC and was made by nthlgmz. I think its beautiful and and decided to use an an example.

For large cakes like that I usually get a sheet of MDF cut to size at Home Depot.

Thanks! How much does the MDF usually cost?

It's in the $5-7 range for a sheet that's (i think) 23x48" and they will cut it in store to any size you need for free (and of course the pieces that get cut off you take with you for other projects).
