The last two times I did a two layer cake the frosting slide off the cake and I had to re frost it three times before it stayed on. People always comment they like my cakes because the frosting is not very thick, so I don't think I am putting to much on.
My recipe is the one I have always used
1 pound powdered sugar
1/2 C. shortening
1/3 C water
flavor
Also why is it that I have so much trouble with the bottom of the cake showing through?
TIA

Sounds like your icing is too thin... on the bottom if the cake is showing you aren't putting on enough

Try crumb coating first .. letting it sit for a few minutes then putting on another layer... That way your main icing will have something to "hold" on to icon_smile.gif
