I am going to make a cake similar to Wilton's Fiesta Margarita cake (with the sombrero on it: http://www.wilton.com/recipes/recipesandprojects/bday/fiestamargarita.cfm)
and I will cover it in MMF. Then I want to place this whole thing on top of a one or two layer (which do you think is better? does it matter for structure?) sheet cake or square cake, also covered in MMF.
Do I need support, such as dowels or cake board in between the round and the bottom? Never done that structural stuff before!
Anyone else made this one? It's a big project for me!

Wow, cakesondemand, that is gorgeous! Thank you for your response. I will still need to have some kind of base cake or bottom layer, the round cake with sombrero is not going to be enough for the large crowd I have to feed!
Do you think it will hold up?

How many servings do you need we had about 40 and all we used was the top of the sombero. If your going to use a larger thicker base I would dowel it then put the top on.
