Cake Carving Recipe

I am going to be carving my first cake - a fish. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what type of cake recipe works best for carving? icon_smile.gif

Use a cake with a close texture. Different people like different flavors of cake, so I won't offer a recipe, just be sure to use something dense like pound cake so that the cake retains the detail you carve into it. Since the fish is probably going to be laying down, you can get by with something less sturdy, but if the fish is one of those that's on its belly the way it would be swimming in the water, you would want to be more careful with texture of the cake.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about using my pound cake recipe. This cake is for my son's baseball team. They are going fishing at one of the parent's farm and he wants a cake that looks like a fish eating one of the baseball players. This should be quite a challenge. Tracy
