My grandmother was from Italy and unfortunately when she passed away so did her recipes. I grew up in the midwest so i think we did it a little different. I know she had the mini chocolate chips in the filling and at eat end she had the nuts that were colored more of a deep green. There was no orange flavoring in it either like some recipes. Does anyone have a great filling recipe for canolis, if so I would be so greatful!!! Thanks Dana
I made cannoli filling for a cake the other day, the basic recipe I got off of recipezaar. Anyhoo, it's 2 cups ricotta, 3/4 cup powdered sugar. Add mini choc chips or chunks. I added a couple tablespoons of amaretto, which I thought was nice. I think pistachios are traditional, as is candied citrus peel.
