But I'm trying to be a tad bit more healthy lately and want to use canola oil in place of vegetable oil (and I'd really hate to have to buy both)...what kind of affect would canola oil have in a box mix recipe vs. the vegetable oil it calls for?
I use canola oil when the cake mix calls for veg oil - haven't noticed any difference in the final product. HTH
I've only ever used canola oil and have never had a problem with my cakes.

canola is vegetable oil
I use nothing but canola oil because it is a bit healthier. Many times I substitute the same amount of apple sauce for the oil & have never noticed a difference. It's healthier & another way I can get fruit into the grandkids!
