Hi guys...I don't know how you guys feel about this but wanted to know what you all thought and felt about this. When I do a cake for a customer I put all the time and LOVE in the cake...as sure all of you do. I get so excited and proud of each one that I do. Well today I had an order, I was so IMPRESSED with the outcome of the cake...when I delivered it, her reaction was oh it's nice...Are you kidding me! I don't expect people to fall on the floor over it, but a little excitement PLEASE!!! Does this annoy anyone else???? Just wondering and venting here.....
If I'm excited about my cake I tell them.
I do not expect anything from them but payment.
But you've touched on an interesting subject.
The cake high--it's a very cool feeling--the cake rush.
way way cool
Ha - yesterday, I had the same underwhelming response from a client. I was really happy with the cake, as it came out just like the wooden carving they wanted me to duplicate in cake. When I delivered it, she was like, "It's fine - I like it!" I wanted to shout, "I LOVE IT!!" Like the lady in the Progressive commercial. LOL
Oh well...I loved it, and they paid for it.

Ha Ha... I LOVE that commercial
DH thinks I'm nuts but I laugh at it every time it's on!
OP- did you post your pic yet? I'd love to see your cake
I laugh out loud whenever I see that commercial too!!! I love it!
Okay, here's the cake - I know, it's stupidly simple, but I was still quite pleased with how it turned out, so a little enthusiasm on the part of the recipient would have been nice, too...and I only charged 40 bucks for it!
OP, I'm sorry to hijack your thread.
your cake is amazingly awesome! I sometimes think when people pay for things they just expect moce things, and don't think of all when into doing it. I will post some new pics tomorrow have to have hubby help me! I am good at cake decorating, but somewhat challenged with the computer!
...stupidly simple...
well, maybe if you're Michelangelo!
that's AWESOME!!!!!!!
Awwwww, thank you!!!!!!!
Now that's the kind of reaction I was hoping for! LOL
You guys rock.

I second this!!! HOW did you do that?
LOL, it was really easy. The cakes (two 9" x 13") were carved into the wing shapes and iced with buttercream. Then I rolled the fondant kinda thick (about a third of an inch) and cut the four horizontal sections per wing with an X-acto knife. I used the dresden tool to make all of the feather lines, and then just laid the fondant sections on top of the buttercream, starting at the bottom and working upward.
The lines weren't as deeply 'carved' as the actual wooden carving, but the fondant would have had to been an inch thick for that much of an effect! Haha

while it "sounds" easy -- execution is the difference.
in your hands -- the dresden tool makes a work of art.
in mine -- a mess.
don't sell your talent short!!!
Guess you make the impossible (for anyone else)cakes look impossibly easy.......
You're victims of your own genius!
Some (hopefully) inspiring quotes I found for all the decorators on this site:
The ability of someone to choose and arrange the details of their creative field guided by a vision is a major hallmark of a genius. (John Briggs)
Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.
(Wolfgang A. Mozart)

Maybe you couldn't tell but I'm enamored with angel wings. I have angel wing earrings, ring, necklace, pictures, etc.
Your cake is tremendously awesome and inspiring.
