I tried my hand at SMBC last week and LOVED it. This is great because my sister wants a yummy icing for her wedding cake in 2 mos and is not impressed with anything that has crisco in it.

The first batch I made, I used regular vanilla extract and was very happy with the taste but the color wasn't the greatest. The second batch I made, I used wilton clear vanilla, and it had a hint of a chemical taste that I wasn't impressed with. (color was too yellow too but that's another post.)
SO, is there a different brand of clear vanilla that's going to taste good? I don't want to spend a bunch of money buying different kinds on line and end up with the same results!
Thanks!

Personally, I hate the fake taste of all clear vanilla. I prefer to have off-white. Although, you could use a clear flavoring like lemon or almond, or some of the other flavorings

I just added some white-white icing color that Wilton makes. My fav vanilla is the double strength that Penzy's has.
