I had fun doing this! I had to figure out how to attach the cupcakes without using toothpicks or skewers as they were made in silicone liners - didn't want holes in those! So, I found cheap round plastic organizer containers in the beading aisle of my local craft store and used the bottoms to hold the cupcakes. They were inserted into the styrofoam ball and held the cupcakes nicely!
The critters and the gerbera daisies are gumpaste.
I would appreciate your comments and critique. Thanks!
A pic of the finished product is in my photos: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1236287.html

Those are lovely!

I just think your holder find for the silicone cups is fantastic! I will have to look for similar for the same purpose...how cool!

Really nice looking flowers and arrangement. icon_smile.gif

Thank you!

The gerbera daisies were made from gumpaste using Wilton's large and small daisy cutters. Roll out gumpaste. Cut three each for each flower. After cutting one, roll out again to round out and widen the petals a bit. Then, move to foam and curl up each petal using the veining tool, moving from the outer edge to the center. Stack three large and three small layers, attaching them with "gum glue" in the center. The center of the flower is a flattened piece of gumpaste that has been repeatedly poked with a toothpick, then dusted with petal dust. Place in a slightly opened foil cupcake cup to dry with a little upturn to the petals. Hope this was helpful!

dumb question but do you ice the cupcakes while they are stuck in the styrofoam? or do you ice them and then stick them in the foam? I just don't want to stick my finger in the icing and destroy it. I'm going to be using the 1M tip, to make them look like roses.
