Does anyone know what to do with a box mix of vanilla cake to spice it up a bit. I don't mean spice as in spicey but as in a really rich, decedent cake with a custard like filling? Ameratto or almond extracts/liquer would be nice but need something else....anyone have any ideas for a cake do this weekend. What goes with vanilla that is NOT a fruit filling????

Try pastry cream. There are hundreds of recipes for this online. Extracts and liqueurs can be added near the end.

I remembered something else you can try - a bit of ground nutmeg. At most, 1/2 teaspoon per batter.
