Can someone explain how to put fondant onto a square cake and get the corners to look decent? Do I start at the corners and work my way out or start in the middle of the sides and work my way into the corner area? I have to make a cake that looks like a present so I won't be able to "hide" any mistakes with bowes or things like that on the corners. Thanks in advance.
start at the corners like this:
corner/corner then middle of side
corner/corner/middle
corner/corner/middle

Well, you've heard it from the expert. If you can, you should check out Sharon's fondant DVD. She addresses how to cover all shapes of cakes. I used her DVD suggestions to do the "present" cake in my photos - which was my first square cake covered in fondant- and her advice was invaluable.
One of the You Tube video's posted on the You Tube thread has a video and makes it look very easy. hth
