OK, before I had brain surgery for an unruptured cerebral aneurysm, i did a cake with a character "Squirty the Aneurysm". He was a bulge in a blood vessel with a smiley face and his hair was blood spewing. I wish I could find the pictures. Anywho, you could do a blood vessel or arm with a syringe and say something like "this will only hurt a little" or "pump up your fist". How about "congrats from the phlebotomist of my heart"?

How about one of those bags they fill up when you donate blood? Kinda looks like an IV bag?

When someone new on our floor is cleared to draw blood, we dub them a new "vampire". Maybe something on that theme, or a saying about how "draining" the job will be?

Maybe some little red- and purple- and yellow- and green- top tubes, like what you draw blood into, and a little butterfly?

I was thinkin more along the lines of a 1/4 sheet cake with butter cream frosting and i will use the fondant to cover, then decorate with the 2 grad caps & 2 diplomas. then i am stuck!
