I'm doing the NFSC recipe and decorating with MMF. I plan to add royal icing accents after they cool. What I'm wondering is if I can decorate the MMF before I put them on the cookie or wait until they are cool and then decorate them. Not so much with the royal icing, but with colors and luster dust.
The fondant can stretch a bit as you manipulate it and could distort your decorations/dust. After is better.
The MMF dries out rather quickly....I tried this technique but then when I cut them, the sides of the cut MMF pieces looked 'raw'.
You could precut the MMF and dust, etc. and then put them under saran, then place on the cookie but since I usually apply to warm cookies and rub gently across the top to secure them, I fear I would wipe off all the dust, etc......
