I am doing a ladybug themed cake for a baby shower. They want a 12x18 cake. All they want on the cake is Welcome Chloe Lynn and then ladybugs. Should I ice the cake white? or pink? I am thinking the pink really wouldn't go with the black/red but since it is a girl I thought it might look o.k. Also I was thinking of doing drop flowers as a border around the saying with vines and leaves. Would that look o.k.
Any other ideas for it, any help would be much appreciative!!
Thanks!!!
As for the color as the customer what she would like. The drop flowers would be nice or little rosebuds
What about a very pale pink? That probably wouldn't clash with the red so much. If you did flowers and leaves, you could put some small ladybugs on the leaves.
. . . I only have one question . . . who said ladybugs had to be black and red . . . (customer request??) . . . you "could" do what ever color you like . . . incorporating pastel baby colors or vibrant colors (depending on your design) . . .

. . . still recognizable as ladybugs . . . or if you are feeling adventurous you could make a "Anne Geddes" style ladybug with a baby's face . . .

The invitation is of a black and red ladybug and they want to stick to that theme. Though I think pink and white ladybugs would have been cute too!
Thanks for the help and suggestions, I really appreciate all of them!!
How about a very light pastel green for the icing. That would make the ladybugs and flowers pop a little.
Here's a cake I did for a customer just to give you an idea of what those colors look like together. Your design would be different of course!

. . . can you post a copy of the invite . . . maybe we can make some recommendations based on that . . .
Here is a link to the cake that I made. Not great but might give you some ideas. I also made a separate ladybug for the birthday girl. I could pm you a picture if you like. I haven't figured out how to do a collage yet!

Also ment to say all of your cakes look great!! Christi yours is beautiful!! I hope someday to be able to make a tired cake! Seems like everyone around here wants sheet cakes.
What about a 3D ladybug?? Using a Pyrex bowl and a cupcake for the head, or the Wilton soccer ball pan...
Just a thought!
I did a lady bug cake for a birthday(in my pics), you could adapt it to your size needs and colors. Just another idea.

I love ladybugs on the yellow.
I also really like the idea of the light green background. Kind of infers grass, but putting grass might look a little less "little girl-ey". I love the idea of the drop flowers. Maybe thick letters spelling out the message with little drop flowers and ladybugs.
