I'm doing a Tom & Jerry themed birthday party for my DD on Sunday. I've only done fondant modeling one other time and got so frustrated that I ended up having DH finish it up and it was just a simple teddy bear. So today I thought I would attempt to make Jerry for the cake and I'd like to know your opinions. I really found it enjoyable and creative today (could have something to do with it being naptime when I attempted this too ). I know it could use improvement....I really suck at doing appendages but other then that what do you think? Does it look like Jerry? Should I hang up my fondant tools?
Please be honest!
P.S. Sorry the pic isn't the greatest but once I resized it for the forums you lose some of the finer details.
It think the figure is very cute.
Since most of these figures are illegal to sell, I haven't even tried to make anything. I have no hints to help with the apendages.
knew it was Jerry before I even read the post.
so --- where's Tom? blown up? electrified? twisted in a pretzel? out cold?
looking forward to the finished pièce de résistance!
I think he looks great, honestly

Doug~ Your too funny! He's gonna be the cake when I get to that point. DD is going to be 3 so it won't be anything too violent
Perhaps Tom is stuck in a fishbowl or crystal ball? heh, heh
My DD has this movie and watches it all the time...was watching it last night to be exact!
I think you did wonderfully! I would just add a few wiskers and eyelashes and some detail on his body, the lighter color...
He is great the way he is though!! Great Job!
I think it looks like Jerry without reading the post first! I bet your DD will love it!
Looks just like Jerry.....maybe a little bit more of a grin.....but hey.. he's good just as he is....... keep those fondant tools out.
You did a great job! No need to hang up the fondant tools. Add a few whiskers and he is perfect!
he looks fabulous! Great job!
Don't hang up your tools, you are doing great. Pull the bottom lip down a bit & turn the corners of his mouth up, add some whiskers & he will be ready to go. Looking forward to seeing the end result too.
DD's party was Sunday and I just finished posting the end cakes in my album....thanks everyone!
The Jerry looks good to me, i'm sure that your DD will love it.
I love it, I think he looks like he's up to something! Do not be so hard on yourself, I think you should continue having fun with fondant & hopefully you'll gain confidence. I'm a perfectionist & it sounds like you're one too. Sometimes we have to realize that 99.9% is good enough =)
Very cute. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching it with my brother.
Ya, I think it looks great the way he is and it does look like Jerry... but if I were to change anything it would be to give him a more noticeable smile..turn the corners of his mouth up a little and drag down the bottom lip a little like someone had suggested already...and maybe a little red tongue in there too. ..whiskers and a lighter colored belly area to match his muzzle and wa-la!
He actually has a red tongue and eyelashes that were mentioned earlier...for some reason the top part sticks out too much and you can only see it if you look at him at an angle. I ended up forgetting the whiskers in the end but all in all I was really happy how the whole thing turned out.
