I have been wanting to use the pretty new cupcake holders for weddings and other events however they are much too expensive. I came up with the attached. It is made from a 10" Wilton grease proof doilly. The template is 8.5" from tip to tip and 2" wide however I would make them wider for a more dramatic look. Hope you enjoy these.
those are so cute! are they heat resistant- like can you actually bake the cupcakes in them? sorry, dumb question.
thanks for sharing!
Oh No! They are not to be used in baking. Use only as decoration and a wrapper to display.
that's what i thought, just was making sure....
What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing! I think I have some doillies in my garage!
Remember, you can always cut these out of butcher paper that won't show grease stains and use the various punches available at the craft store to decorate the edges as needed for other events. I think they will add much value to your cupcakes without paying the $1 each on-line.
I hadn't seen these before... What a pretty idea! Very feminine and delicate.
Love it! Thanks for sharing.
great idea thanks for sharing
Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing.

I had never seen these until this thread. I like the wrapping paper idea, too. Easy to change the design.
I just love this site...
I've been looking for something like this for awhile now.
Thanks for posting this template..
Lovely idea, thanks! I did some thinking and came up with this alternative. You can add all kinds of WONDERFUL things like ribbons, beads, pearls, glitter etc etc. They will work BEAUTIFULLY for weddings as you can personalise them ...

what a great idea! Thanks for posting
I love this idea!!1 I have seen these wrappers for $1.00 each on sites. I do have a question. Do you bake cupcakes in liners first and then take the liners off to do this, or do you just bake right in the pan. There will be no cover for the bottom of the cupcakes, is this an issue? Thanks for sharing such a great idea!!!!
I have another question... How do you secure the ends? Tape? Did I miss something and you don't need to tape the ends together to make the circle?
I have been looking, and most pictures I see (if you look carefully) still have the cupcake liners on the cupcakes. So I guess it's just bake as usual, decorate, and put in the wrappers.
Much easier, nicer looking, and cheaper than trying to find cute cupcake liners.
I love this idea!
You leave the liners on and just add the wrappers after to make them look nicer ! I didnt see anything about how to secure the ends. I guess what ever works for you ?
I secured the ends with double sided tape. However, I found it didn't hold well due to the grease proof doily. I am thinking glue stick if tape doesn't work for you.
I used a non-toxic glue stick and it holds it perfectly. No problem with the grease from the icing either.
Thanks Verina, good to know!
I read where someone was going to make the wrapper look like a popcorn box for a party. I found these in Oriental Trading and thought you could cut around the graphic and slip the cupcake into the remainder of the cup. If it was hard to get back out the bottom could also be cut out so that you could push it up and out of the top. I don't have any cupcakes handy to try this so I hope someone could try it for me and see if a party cup fits. If so there are so many party cups that could be cut down to match the party theme ware. These are $4.95 for 12! What do you think?
OMG you people!! I love this idea!! Thanks for sharing it, and thanks for chanting for a cupcake forum so I was actually able to stumble across this post.
Okay, my cuppy friends, I have been working on my own version of a cupcake wrapper or collar and I've posted 2 templates in the gallery. PLEASE SOMEBODY try them out and let me know if any changes need to be made--I don't have a clue as to when I will get the time to bake cupcakes again!
love this thread! the liners online are cute but expensive - homemade can be personalized!
I can't wait to try those cupcake wrappers!
I have a question and would love someone's input.
What do you think about printing a design for wrappers and cutting them out using this template?
I'm thinking about making cupcakes for an event this weekend and what I would love to do is wrap them in something that looks like the logo being used.
If I do them, I want them to look nice, but this isn't something I'm interested in putting a lot of money into.
I was considering either just printing the background of the logo and cutting that, or trying to center the logo on the template.
IF this would work, what quality of paper would I need to use? I'm assuming regular copy paper would be too lightweight, but velum might be too heavy.
Thoughts? Is this worth attempting? I don't have the go ahead for the cupcakes yet and I've been recovering from a long term illness, so I'm not positive I have this in me at this point. But if I'm gonna do it, I gotta get started soon!
Thanks for your help!
thank you good idea
