So, I am kind of new to the decorating thing, and I am self taught. Each cake is a learning experience for me. Now that being said. I am working on this cake for someone in NJ, i live in MD, they are coming to pick it up tomorrow (its my sister in laws best friend who is catering a party). It was one of those charge too much so the say no type of things, but they said yes. So I am makng a cake for 100 people, i told her $400. its a book stacked cake with a cap on top. i have to say the school colors are ugly. anyway, so i am looking at this almost finished cake and I am thinking that it does not look like a $400 cake. It took me $45 to make it and about 4 hours. I feel like i should give them a break. I don;t know what to do. i will try to attach a pic, keep in mind that it is not done yet. I can;t figure out how to do the top of the cap.
any ideas would be helpful.
(i don;t know how to change the size of the pic to attach it)

I think it looks good, you just need some more detail! If your still feeling like you charged to much once your finished, offer them a discount. Sometimes when I'm working on a cake, I get half way through and think it look horrible but once I finish and add all the detail I realize it's alright! icon_biggrin.gif

Chefperl :

To resize pictures try this website: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

What I suggest for the cap if you do not have a BALL pan use the small "Pyrex" bowl (I use it to bake the tea pot cake) and for the top use cardboard or Styrofoam covered in fondant ...

I did a search for graduation cakes and here are some that have caps

Post your picture before you give them a discount, sometimes we are TOOOOO critical of our own work.

Good Luck !! thumbs_up.gif
