Stupid question I know, but I can't seem to find Bettercreme unless I drive 4 hours north of where I live. I can get Pastry Pride or Whip n' Top and will it taste the same?

Once the carton is opened, thawed and not whipped, how long will it keep?

Thanks,

Kathy

I think once you open the cartoon it will last up to 6months in the refrigerator. icon_biggrin.gif

Kathy - I haven't have pastry pride or whip n' top, but I do have Bettercream. It doesn't really freeze solid so you can keep it in the freezer and take it out, shake it up and use when needed. 1 quart will cove 2-3 cake mixes. It lasts 1 year in the freezer according to their website. It takes flavorings really well and is delicious!

I have only used Rich's Bettercream. But I have heard that it's very similar to Pastry Pride. I use the liquid Bettercream. It comes in a quart sized carton. You just pour it in the bowl and whip it with a balloon whip.

It lasts 1 week after it is opened. I think it lasts forever unopened.

Thank you mindywith3boys. That's what I was thinking with the carton being thawed and opened. I'm hoping to try Rich's Bettercreme.

Ok...what are you all taking about...I've read about Pastry Pride and Bettercream for months but don't really understand its uses and where to find it. Please explain. Thanks!

I used to use bettercream at dairyqueen on the cakes when i worked there. You can keep it out for most of the day at room temp and it will keep. It kept nicely in the fridge for quite awhile. I wouldnt worry too much unless your only unsing it weeks at a time. I would think it would keep for at LEAST a couple months. I dont know what the other buttercreams taste like , but bettercream tastes sort of like a thicker whipped cream. About the same sweetness. Very mild and not too sugary.

Somewhere on one of the forums I saw that someone liked Whip n Top much better. I love the Bettercreme and haven't tried the others. You might want to do a search on the other forums for more research on it.
